“A joy to read!”

Oak trees are multi-faceted. Not only are they a haven for wildlife due to the food and shelter they provide, these grand trees have been described in various types of literature, and the majority of the ones we see have been standing for hundreds of years. There is a whole chapter on oak trees in mythology, which for me has certainly inspired further reading.
Acton clearly has a passion for these giants of the forest and explains how they can almost be seen as an icon in Britain. This is such an interesting and revealing book and provides so much information about the natural world, as well as highlighting the importance of respecting nature.
One of the final sections entitled ‘Some Fun Stuff’ is excellent for all ages. Go outside and immerse yourself in the world around you, at any time of the year!
A joy to read and extremely accessible, this is ideal for anyone with an interest in the natural world.

“Oaklore” is a unique, non fiction book, richly featuring the celebration of the mighty Oak tree, in British life, literature, culture, history and even mythology.
It feels so much like having a wonderful and idyllic stroll through a woodland forest reading this book. The imagined sights, scents, and sounds evoking from between the covers is pure escapism and an extremely satisfying way, to impart and digest the unique knowledge on offer. It’s a genuine joy, discovering the history of this iconic tree and from the deep roots to its proud branches, recognisable leaves and the nature living beside and on it, I learned so many interesting facts about them! The author’s eagerness to share her incredible knowledge is palpable and her enthusiasm for this subject is commendable.
There are serious points to be made as well, since our ancient woodland now only forms only 2.5% of the UK and a desperate call is being made to care for those we have left.
It goes without saying that an interest in nature and ecology is essential for the reading of this book and if that is your genre, then this book is a must for you.
