This is the first full length book in which Roberta Steel gets her flowers and takes over from Logan McRae as the star as the show. She would argue that she has always been the star but as a reader it's a delight to see her get top billing. The humour which always underpins the noir in these books now overpins it too. It's a smart story, advancing the established plot lines of previous novels and building on the canon but it's got a madcap, Chaplinesque vibe that never fails to lift the mood even when the noir sneaks back in.

This is my very first stuart macbride book i got gripped it is a well written story about dci roberta steel. Stuart macbride is talented with his storytelling and i'm enjoying the book. It is a good read

Absolutely LOVED this book. A dark and gripping page turner that will have you laughing out loud! DCI Roberta Steel has recently been demoted after fitting up Jack Wallace, she is determined to catch Jack and put him away and get her revenge. With Wallace on the streets again and more women being attacked DS Steel knows Wallace is behind it but she's been warned by his Lawyer that if she goes near him she will be thrown off the force...and it's not just her job at steak! I thought this book was absolutely brilliant from Roberta's point of view, the Logan and Steel series is one of my favourite series! Highly recommend this read to everyone! You will not be disappointed!

A holiday without a Stuart MacBride book is a holiday spoilt. The Steele / Logan series never fails to keep me in good spirits. Why these stories have not been adapted for television is a crime in itself. Off to Mexico soon with the latest now in paperback.

Got really swept up in it and although serious and sometimes gruesome subjects Steel makes me laugh out loud with her comments and antics
