I was given this book by a friend for Christmas! And it is the best book I have ever read. In these uncertain times we are living everyone should read this book! It is a classic for a reason.
“Even if you haven't read a book before, this is something you have to read.”

After so many years of trying to read this book I finally managed to read it. So many people have commented on how this book related to the modern day and how Orwell has predicted so many things. From reading this they were spot on. Orwell paints a fascinating picture of what life would be like under constant supervision from the government and not being able the freedom of speech. Reading the book is like you are living amongst the characters in 1984 and can almost sympathise with how they have to live. You go through all the emotions when reading this. At first it took me a few chapters to fully understand the story and the characters that Orwell was creating, but once you understand who everyone is and start understanding the story this really gets you intrigued into the story. This for me has been one of my best reads and will highly recommend that everyone reads this once in their life.
“One of my favourite Orwell reads”

My first experience of Orwell’s nonfiction was this novel and I couldn’t put it down for more than a few hours. It perfectly portrays a dystopian society that seems terrifyingly possible and not so out of reach in today’s society. Orwell creates a sense of attachment among readers as we hope for the protagonist.
“A classic that remains pertinent and worryingly possble.”

Like most people, I already have a copy of the Nineteen Eighty-Four on my bookshelves but the lure of the majestic Peter Capaldi tempted me into requesting a copy from NetGalley to review. He is a beguiling choice for the narrator of this recent edition of a genuine classic. Capaldi expertly guides the reader through the various stages of Winston’s emotions from Big Brother drone to a tortured soul. You hang on every intonation, especially during the inevitable destruction of Winston’s spirit. He makes the powerful words even more visceral. Every generation brings more readers that have the satisfaction of discovering this powerful story for the first time and with more & more people using audiobooks to consume literature, having an actor of Capaldi’s gifts to read the book was a stunning decision. The blending of the compelling & frightening words of Orwell and the voice of Capaldi is sublime and will wow all who hit play. I received a copy from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for a review.
