It has been seventeen years since Kate and Callum last saw one another. Then, she was a young woman with a dream of becoming a famous actress and he was a husband to a loving wife and father to two kids with a baby on the way. They started a passionate affair which eventually stampeded a path of distraction through everything. Both bearing broken hearts, they sculpted new lives from the wreckage and now they are new people. Or so it would seem. Kate is a successful actress, loving wife and mother and Callum is a teacher, happily watching his kids grow up with wife Belinda. When Kate is invited up to Edinburgh to visit her old school, she and Callum are thrown back together and this time they must decide whether to once again go their separate ways or recapture what they had all those years ago. I fell completely in love with this book from the very first page. The characters of Kate, Callum, Matt and (especially) Hetty will stick in your mind far past the final page. They’re flawed but I think this is what makes them so relatable. No one is perfect, Kate and Callum certainly aren’t, they are just human, and Ruth Jones’ moving portrait of life and the way these two characters find their way is extraordinary. I think I have to quickly mention a bit more about my absolute favourite character, Hetty. She is just the sweetest, funniest, most loyal friend. I loved her to bits. Every book should have a Hetty

Enjoyed the light and humorous tone of this book by Ruth Jones. It would be a pleasant holiday read. There are some deep moral influences which reminded me not to be too judgemental. I won’t give away any spoilers, however, the ending reconciles many unanswered questions I had regarding the main character Kate.

What a fantastic first book from Ruth Jones. Couldn’t put it down! So looking forward to her next one! Highly recommend this book!

This book is a breath of fresh air i loved reading it on the plane and my balcony of the hotel i stayed at in spain. 5 stars.

I was in love with Gavin and Stacey and was really excited to read Ruth's first fiction - it did not disappoint. Romance dramas are my favourite genre of book but I have recently found many to be wishy washy and boring with perfect, straightforward characters. I am pleased to reveal that Ruth makes no such mistake. The book is full of cringe, drama and bad decisions, laying bare the true messiness of 20 year long relationships and leaves the reader constantly questioning one's own decisions and morals. I found it do easy to fall in love with and connect with the characters in this book, despite Ruth making no attempt to make every main character irritatingly affable and boring. I loved this and finishing it felt deflating. Don't worry though - it's not an unsatisfying ending (this is my greatest fear with any good book)!
