Having, purchased Jo Empson's previous picture book, 'Rabbityness', I was eager to see what she would come up with next - I was not disappointed! 'Never Ever' sets a simple premise: that a little girl believes that nothing ever exciting happens to her. But as she walks along, she encounters a variety of exotic animals, but is oblivious to all that is going on around her, until... I will not spoil things by telling you the rest of the story, needless to say it maintains the colourful and simple charm of her previous book. And like her previous work, it can be interpreted in two ways: as simply a delightful picture book to be read to your kids, or as a message to us more grown-up children! Highly recommended!
