“Enter the world of the cruel faeries”
(Hardback)
by Lavinia, Waterstones
Nettle is faced with a decision- make a bargain with a faery king to save her grandmother or let her die. Thankfully for us, she chooses the first option and we are swept into the cruel and dangerous world of the faeries. Bex Hogan’s world is full of magic- from the faery glamour to the moving forests- and with her clear and concise prose, I found this a delight to read. I loved the contrast between Conor and Ellion, how they reflect the different worlds, and draw out the opposing sides of Nettle’s character. We witness the brutality of the faerie games through the trapped humans, like Marigold, but are charmed with the glittering kingdom at the balls. A coming-of-age tale, Nettle is perfect for fans of Holly Black’s The Cruel Prince.
“A wonderful glimpse into Faery”

I was very excited for this book and I was not at all disappointed - keeping this review brief and spoiler free here are the things I loved about the book :) Nettle as a character was a wonderful, thoughtful, soul and I really enjoyed the empathy she dislayed throughout. Her desire to help as many people as possible while also not being a pushover was really lovely to see. I really appreciated the way that, through Nettle, we saw elements of Faery that are often hinted at (occassionally shown) in other fae based tales, but this story actually showed us the depths of how awful it can be - even for the fae themselves. I liked the pace of the book - it didn't drag, even when it could have done with the repitition of Nettles tasks. it flowed well, didn't jump around, and was a nice easy (but very fulfilling) read Things I didn't like - nothing...I loved it all - didn't you see the 5 stars!!
“Beautiful and magical!”

Nettle is a truly beautiful and enchanting story that made me laugh and even made me cry. I loved everything about this story and I will shout about it from the rooftops until everyone has read it. Nettle feels like a classic fairytale with magic and fae at its core. The world-building is phenomenal and I could instantly picture the land of the fae in which Nettle finds herself transported to. Nettle herself is an amazing character who I couldn't help but love. She may be a misfit but she's so caring and giving that I just wanted to pick her up and put her into my pocket to protect her. I honestly loved every single second of reading this book and I really recommend picking this one up if you're a love of fairytales. I am always so excited to see what Bex writes next and I just know it's going to be brilliant!
“A perfect faery tale”

Wow wow wow!! I always knew I was going to love Nettle; it’s written by Bex Hogan and she is absolutely one of my autobuy authors. However, I didn’t expect to get out of my reading slump and devour a book so readily! Nettle is beautifully written and I adored the world building and the characters. It was a really interesting take on the faery realm and I loved how Bex really made it her own. I was also pleasantly surprised not to have my heart destroyed for a change!! I would highly recommend Nettle as a wonderful introduction to fantasy and faery tales - it was the perfect length to keep the reader engaged whilst still being full of detail. Thank you to Zephyr for the early copy via NetGalley.
