Reviews: Net Zero (2)
“Thought provoking book with an actual blueprint of how we stop climate change - a must read for anyone who's serious about what's needed to stop climate change”
(Paperback)
It's a great book although a bit academic - not the most easily accessible language but it's a great book.
You can tell it's definitely written through the lens of an economist but that doesn't stop it being a brilliant book.
If only politicians around the world would read this as well as the everyday person because without voter support, the politicians wouldn't be able to implement the solutions written about in this book.
Dieter also doesn't dance around some of the truths of what's causing climate change - our overconsumption meaning that in order to stop overconsumption we need to drastically change our ways and this will mean high carbon products need to become expensive to deter people from buying them as much.
It really is a must read for everyone and I just hope the ideas and solutions suggested get implemented
“Definitely worth a read”
(Hardback)
I read his previous book on UK agriculture and this is similarly practical. You feel that the UK government should read it so they understand what needs to be done and how they would approach it. Dieter focuses on the overall carbon impact so, for instance, ships pumping out CO2 moving goods from China are also counted in our Carbon cost. Ultimately this will result in remote producers will have to pay a carbon tac on their products.
The only weak point in the whole book was what the WTO would think of us putting carbon import taxes on goods. Dieter thinks it is covered, but I don't think anyone has done this yet and so I'm not sure there wouldn't be challenges that might delay implementation. This will be particularly in a post Brexit world.
