Reviews: Nature's Memory (1)
“A Treasure Trove for the Enquiring Mind”
(Hardback)
Staggeringly, only 1 per-cent of museum collections are on display at any one time. The choice of what to put on public display can be very biased - towards mammals, towards male specimens, crowd pleasers.
This book takes us on an in-depth journey of all the collections that get left out of the public gaze and how our perceptions are influenced by what we see or don't see. The final section of the book looks at how these collections may be an invaluable resource in the battle against climate change and biodiversity loss.
This is a very entertaining and eye opening read, shining a light on our trusted institutions which hide many more secrets than they reveal.
