Reviews: Murder Maps (5)
“Fascinating”
(Hardback)
by Sam at NABBOT
Illustrated throughout and attractively presented in sepia, red binding and black page edging. Murder Maps would make an ideal gift for friends and family with an interest in historical crime or social history. It uses maps, publicity, photography and developing forensic and profiling techniques from the time of the crime to explore crime scenes and murders from around the world. It really is a quality book in appearance and fascinating in content. It would make a worthy addition to any library. I would like to thank the publisher for supplying me with a copy of ‘Murder Maps’ in exchange for an honest review.
“Goregous but gruesome”

This is a stunning book. The black sprayed edges had me from the first glimpse, and the contents do not let it down. This is a must have for any historic true crime buff. It presents case studies of murders, violent crimes, and executions. Each case is presented by the facts, with pictures, photos, detailed maps and even newspaper articles alongside to clarify and illustrate. Each case study looks at those who committed the crime, who the victims were, those involved in solving it, and the reaction surrounding it at the time too. There are so many people and stories contained here that there are no great deep dives but some very interesting cases are looked at and it's the perfect starting point to explore further yourself. There are timelines of forensic develop (for better and worse!), and detectives and scientists of note are given their pages too. I like the way that speculation has been avoided, and it is not sensationalist. It's very well presented, and thoroughly engaging. Each time I try to put it down, I just want to look at one more page....
“Dead good.”
(Hardback)
by Ben Richardson
Wonderfully grisly treasury of serial killers from around the world, featuring all the old favourites, including Jack the Ripper and Ned Kelly, but also the less celebrated, including the wonderfully named Ferdinand Gump, of Bavaria who led a life of robbery until he fell out, quite fatally, with his fellow bandits!

A fascinating, beautifully packaged and gruesome book combining history and true crime. Containing real crime scene photos so its definitely not for the faint hearted. However this would be the perfect gift for a fan of historical true crime.

This book is truly fascinating and beautifully designed. Every inch of every page is packed with information, photographs of crime scenes, victims and the criminals themselves, sketches, articles from newspapers from the era covering the heinous crimes and of course, maps illustrating various key elements of each of the crimes featured in the pages of the book. It was clearly a labour of love from the team who created the book and it really shows when flicking through each page. The bulk of the book covers historic murders between 1811-1911 from the UK and Europe, with a sizeable section on the USA and a smaller section on Australia. This book would be the perfect gift for any person who has a fascination with the macabre, murder scenes and true crime from the Jack the Ripper era or for yourself obviously! You will not be disappointed.
