Reviews: Murder Book (1)
“excellent read”
(Paperback)
I have to say the title intrigued me from the off ‘Murder Book’ but all is explained within the context of the book, when I first read a new author I am never sure what to expect, but this was a book I found easy to fall into. The author manages to draw you in from the opening with a premise that whilst I wasn’t sure what direction the story would take me or what to expect it was clear that the storytelling was going to be of the highest calibre
What on the face of it starts out as an easy job for Harry Duncan very quickly becomes anything but as he fights for his very survival.
I found the character of Harry Duncan to be likeable, somewhat different to the norm, quick thinking and easily able to assess any given situation, the book is peppered with a terrific mix of characters that clearly belong to the small midwestern town environment, particularly Renee Parkmen, to some degree along with Duncan the mainstay of the book, a woman determined not to be intimidated. One thing that stood out for me is that Duncan is not a lone vigilante type, that would have been easy to write but a man very much by the book determined to do the right thing to see justice served
It is difficult not to say much without giving any of the plot away and you need to read this for yourselves. The premise and plot of the book standout in a way that makes it a different type of thriller, the action moves seemlessly along, it is a read packed with plenty of drama and moments of suspense as the tension ratchets up the further into the book you get, at times you are left breathless by the intense action, the author cleverly pitches the dramatic moments at just the right points in the book, designed to make you keep turning the pages, on some level it is a book of two halves as the truth is slowly revealed.
As a contemporary thriller this is right up there, masterful storytelling, a read which kept me enthralled from the opening pages, to the conclusion
Overall, this is a more than satsfying read, full of character, suspense, and tension, an author who I will definetly be looking out.
