If you enjoy quirky approaches to history and travel then this is definitely one for you. Chris Newens eats his way around the arrondissements of Paris picking a defining dish for each of the districts. In doing so he uncovers a wealth of social history and political comment which will take you beneath the skin of this gastronomic capital. Don't think this is all steak frites and snails though Paris is a city of immigrants who have brought their own food culture and given it a distinctive twist francais. The locations he choses are also fascinating from a bordello to a kebab shop, a bistrot to a picnic he uncovers the real Paris. This is funny, informative, intriguing and most of all a delicious read. You need a copy of this to read on the Eurostar on the way over and once you have read the book you will be booking that ticket.
