Reviews: Mockingjay (67)
“A thought-provoking conclusion to a ground breaking series”
(Paperback)
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins is the third and final book in the Hunger Games series. Before I get into the story itself, I have to say—although the covers are simple, they’re absolutely stunning. They’re often what draws me to a book in the first place, and this one is no exception.
This instalment picks up with Katniss after she’s survived the Hunger Games twice. The stakes are higher, the consequences greater, and the emotional weight more intense. Collins has a real way with words—her writing continues to shine in Mockingjay, with vivid descriptions that make the pain, fear, and unrest feel all too real. I could almost feel it in my bones.
Katniss is growing—not just in courage, but in awareness of her own worth and how it can be wielded. Her complicated relationships with Gale and Peeta continue to evolve in a believable and, at times, heartbreaking way. Twists and turns abound, keeping the tension alive and making this third book just as gripping as the first.
What makes Katniss such a powerful character is how real she feels. She’s still young—naïve in some moments, completely overwhelmed in others, but then unexpectedly wise beyond her years. It’s this balance that keeps her authentic and relatable.
Ultimately, it’s Collins’ ability to portray the chaos, manipulation, and resilience of war—layered with emotional depth—that makes Mockingjay such a formidable read. It’s not always comfortable, and it’s not always pretty, but it is powerful. This is a thought-provoking conclusion to a groundbreaking series—and one that lingers long after the final page.

I loved this book!!!
“Amazing, real or not real?”
(Paperback)
This book is an amazing end to a series that has been enrapturing, fascinating, fabulous etc! <3 It stars the characters that we have fallen in love with due to how real they and the situations they've had to deal with, as well as some new characters that are just as interesting. We finally get to find out what changes, who lives and what was going on at the end of Catching Fire! If you enjoyed the first two, you HAVE to read this one ASAP! :D
“what goes around, comes around”
(Paperback)
And so, the final book in the Hunger Games trilogy. The Districts are now in open conflict with the Capitol and Katniss (the symbolic Mockingjay) is damaged both emotionally and physically from her experiences. In essence this book is about that final conflict and the impact it has on the people involved. The author does not take the path I had assumed she would and does not pull any punches at times while repeating some of the formula that has worked so well so far. It remains a book that it not for the young as there are some ‘extreme’ scenes but one that is hard to put down and predict. The scenes of the dictatorship and methodology are very slightly simplistic (and we have seen versions before), but Collins has wrapped them up with an interesting premise and flawed heroine and it has worked very well right through to the end.
“SO SO SO SO AMAZING!”
(Paperback)
Okay, this finale is by far one of the best books I have ever read!
I have never cried so much for this ending, no spoilers, but I did not want this ending, TBH. Not for who she chooses but how it is managed. So much heartache I just do not understand how Katniss copes, or tries to cope, with anything.
She is a woman who can be seen as strong.
LOVE THIS SERIES SO MUCH!
