Reviews: Mockingjay (67)
“A Great Read”
(Paperback)
I’m never a big fan of final instalments of book series’. Usually because they involve a lot of conflict or war and a lot of characters (more often than not) die.
I did like this book because I love the characters and admire the world Collins has built, but once again I did struggle to motivate myself to keep reading. I think the fact that I knew what was going to happen (because I’ve seen the films) added to the reluctance. But at the end of the day it’s a great read. The writing isn’t convoluted and heavy, the pace isn’t slow or overindulging in suspense and hooray for a happy (enough) ending!
I’d love to see a book or a film about Hamitch’s time in the games as I find him a very interesting character and think it’d be cool to see what his experience was like!
“Good Finish But Left Loose Ends”
(Paperback)
I love The Hunger Games trilogy. I think its a brilliant story for young readers with adult story lines.
I loved the first two and I did enjoy this one. I loved how the characters develop with themselves and their relationships. The twists and turns in the storylines are unexpected and clintching which kept me reading until 1-2 in the morning.
However I do feel that some aparts of the book are rushed and I sometimes had to go back and read a page to understand what was going on. Also how the book ended I feel could have been explained with a little more detail as I feel this was rushed as well and there are alot of loose ends that are left untied which is annoying in any book.
I still feel that the first book was the best by far. But I would recommend the trilogy to a friend =].
“Less of a gripping read & more of an emotional one”
(Paperback)
Despite choosing to swap some of the blistering action seen in the previous books in favour of diving deeper into the heroine’s psyche, the finale remained an intense, emotional and ultimately satisfying read. It highlighted the damage and pain war inflicts on its victims and how those who survive aren’t necessarily the lucky ones.
Would I recommend? Yes, the final instalment of any successful series is always going to leave some fans disappointed but for me, the last volume in 'The Hunger Games' trilogy stuck the landing.
“Love it!!!”
(Paperback)
It was amazing and I can't believe so meany people die! It was full of emotion and I would suggest that everyone has to read it but watch the movie first!!!
“Cried solidly for weeks.”
(Paperback)
Perfectly heartbreaking, I find it hard to say goodbye to the blunt bold narrative of Katniss but she shall not be forgotten despite her intentions to be.
