Reviews: Mercy (14)
“A must-read for David Baldacci fans”
(Hardback)
Atlee Pine is a woman on a mission. An FBI agent, she is on leave to continue her search for her twin sister, Mercy, who was kidnapped when they were 6 years old. Along with her friend and assistant, Carol Blum, they are now chasing the best leads there have been in this desperate search.
This is a book I have been waiting to read for some time. Having followed Atlees story from the start, it always felt like it would be one of those the author used as a ‘retirement fund’ series keeping it running indefinitely. Well, as this is the last in this series, the story is being told and it certainly lived up to expectations for me. I’m glad I’ve read the other books in the series as, to me, it helps to build the tension and also understand the characters dynamics. I also really enjoyed the twists and turns, the different threads that the author pulled, in all directions it seemed, but so well intertwined the stories fell together seamlessly. The pace was perfect, adding to the tension, and making the ending more exciting. Loved it.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read and review this book.
“Really Good”
(Hardback)
My thanks to NetGalley and publisher Pan MacMillan for the ARC.
Well, David Baldacci never fails to impress. I've enjoyed this series, following FBI agent Atlee Pine's quest to find out what happened to her twin sister Mercy and, indeed, her mother and father. The difficult thing here, I am finding, is that if I give a synopsis of the story so far, I'll actually be spoiling the pleasure of you reading the previous books. That I don't want to do, although the author does bring the reader up-to-speed to enable this to be read as a standalone, to some extent.
I think it will have to be sufficient to say that this is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller where Atlee does find her sister Mercy - in extraordinary circumstances - with unlikely allies. But does she find her parents?
The hunt is over - but is this the end - or the beginning?
Only the author knows....................
“A Briliant Defective Detective”
(Paperback)
Atlee Pine is on leave from the FBI along with her assistant Carol Blum. She has moved on from her joint investigation with Army CID investigator John Puller. That investigation she had been able to find some answers, but she as yet not found her twin sister Mercy.
El Cain has had a tough life so far living from pay check to pay check with a side hustle of MMA/UFC fighting. She is good at it and can still beat younger women while injured. Her luck ran out when she saw a Nazi slob abusing a woman and beat him up and he later died in hospital. Unfortunately for Cain he had a corrupt brother with a façade of respectability, Peter Buckley wants to find and kill Cain.
El Cain is on the run trying to find the truth about her life and she also knows that she is wanted by the FBI but has no idea why. Little does she know that she is about to run into Atlee Pine who may just save her life. The intersection of Cain and Pine becomes an added bonus for Buckley. His beloved father had been killed by the FBI and his mother and daughter had disowned him and the family. Buckley has not worked out that he has underestimated the two women. This time it really is a fight to the death.
Will Atlee Pine ever find the answers to her life and be able to move on? This is a rollercoaster of emotions. Baldacci keeps the action moving and there is never a dull moment. You just hope that Atlee Pine will eventually find her twin sister. A brilliant female defective detective.
“Stunning finale”
(Hardback)
This is the final book in the series and whilst it can be read as a standalone I recommend reading at least the first book to set the characters in place
Its nearly three decades since FBI Agent Attlee Pine's twin sister Mercy was kidnapped , never to be seen again after escaping her captors- leaving Attlee (Lee) ..seriously tormented and damaged .
It has been a long road to discovering the truth filled with setbacks at every turn but whatever the cost Lee , with the help of her assistant Carol , is determined to find out just what happened all those years ago .
But that truth might just more dangerous than anyone could have imagined !!
This is a superb , fast paced thriller to end this enthralling series - one have have thoroughly enjoyed .
I look forward to reading more from the Author in the future
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
