Memo From Turner is a true return to form after the confusing disappointment of Twelve Children of Paris. Willocks once again displays his versatility, this time writing about modern day policing in South Africa post-Apartheid (a slightly different setting from 16th Century Malta). All the usual ingredients are there - a brilliant lead character in Turner, high tension, fast pace, violence and terrific storytelling, all allied with great characterisation. When Willocks writes like this he is unputdownable - I haven't enjoyed a thriller this much since I read the first Jack Reacher all those years ago!
