Not so much an academic work as a 300-page journalistic expose of a society of intellectual misfits. Becker has an incredible ability to remain informative and relevant to the core aims of the book while maintaining a highly enjoyable, anecdotal writing style. Highly recommended reading for those interested in the Oulipo!
