So impressed with this book that I bought 4 more copies to give to very good friends who are loving it. Gervase Phinn always pleases with a well written, easy style and with lots of humour. I only wish he had been my English teacher since he has given this OAP a much better understanding of the English language and its complexities. Gervase Phinn's love of the construction, the poetry and, as he says," the mishandling of the English language" comes through in all the book. A very readable book which can be dipped into whenever one has a few moments, but then difficult to put down. I shall read it again and again as there is always something more to be got from it. One only wonders, having read the book, how anyone can learn such a complex language where English is not their native tongue. Keep this book by your bedside, have another copy by your armchair and definitely take it on holiday to be entertained and informed at the same time. A little plea to the publisher - larger print would be good, but then maybe it would make the paperback version (which I have) rather heavy to take on holiday!
