Reviews: Managing Expectations (2)
“An Interesting Life, Told Well”
(Hardback)
I absolutely loved this. Driver has such a brilliant way with words, this was a joy to read. An unorthodox life told in a way that allows you in to the world she inhabits and the things she thinks in such a way that you almost feel you know her like a friend. This is funny, challenging and clever and so beautifully written. It reads almost like a novel. I finished this wishing she would write more. It's not even that I want more about her life, I just want her to write things, anything. She has such a fresh, distinct voice. A proper pleasure to read.
“Humorous, heartfelt and intelligently written”
(Hardback)
This is described as 'memoir-ish,' and that's exactly what it is. It's a collection of experiences from Driver's past, I imagine chosen because they shaped her in some way. Driver's voice is witty, with some real laugh-out-loud moments, but it's also emotional at times, especially towards the end.
Managing Expectations is humorous, heartfelt, charming, and intelligently written. Giving incredible respect to everyone mentioned. It's honest and personal, but not too personal. I loved it. I flew through it. The last chapter is incredibly moving. What a brilliant writer. I would recommend this book to everyone.
