In Man Up, Rebecca Asher writes with genuine concern about the impact of societies expectations of men and boys, applying the same level of concern for the male gender as is more often reserved for the female gender. Rebecca challenges the reader, and society at large, to think differently about what it is to be a boy growing up in today's world, reflecting on the latest available evidence and through examples provided by the broad cast of characters that she has engaged with. As a public health practitioner, with a keen interest in health inequalities, there is not anything that I would have changed about this book; perhaps as a comparison it might have been good to view the British male experience through the lens of a wider global context, but that's a tale for another day - a tale I can only hope Rebecca takes up the mantle for following this publication. I learned lots on a subject I thought I knew enough on prior to reading this book; can't say better than that!
