Can I not give this more than fiver stars? This is an absolute gem of a book. Bachmann's narrative is strange, surreal in places, but utterly compelling. 'Malina' is about a woman stuck between two men, her lover and the man she lives with. But really it isn't about them at all, what makes this novel so startlingly contemporary is this novel is almost entirely focused on herself, a woman in a male dominated world. I couldn't put this book down, I have not read a anything that has struck me as much as 'Malina' in a long time. For anyone interested in feminism or literature this is a must read, Bachmann's voice is completely unique. I received this book in exchange for a review, and it is a book that will stay with me for a long time, so I am thoroughly glad I did!
