“Malicious Intent”
(Paperback)
A fantastic new character who is as likeable as Scarpetta, though maybe not as tough. I'm always on the look out for new authors and will definitely be following her work. The book for the most part manages to avoid typical crime cliches, which is very refreshing for anyone who reads alot of this genre. An interesting plot with good scientific detail.

I know I will upset some people when I say that Kathryn Fox cannot be compared to Patricia Cornwell. She is better without a doubt. I liked the fact that she turn forensics from the fantasy world of CSI into real life. It also shine a new perspective on how rape crimes are dealt with and the politics of those trying to look out for the victims.I read this book in one day, it's the perfect gift for insomniacs as I couldn't put it down. Saying all this though as a avid reader of crime fiction it was slightly predictable. Some of the parts you knew what to expect and the person you find yourself certain had done the crime hadn't! Isn't it always. But the ending was a surprise. In conclusion I enjoyed this book and will buy this authors work without hesitation.

This is the first book that I have read which gives various different rape victims' experiences and coping mechanisms. It made me gain a deeper understanding as to why some women don't report rape. If the rest of the novel had been as illuminating it would have been riveting, however very little of the heroine's character is revealed. I would have enjoyed knowing more about her appearance and home so that I could paint a better picture in my mind. Less than 5 days after finishing the novel I have forgotten most aspects of her personality, unlike the vivid portraits of the victims. The ending was a complete suprise however the plot became quite farcical at one point when all crime fighters seemed to be intent on a little known character being the assailant. Kathryn Fox certainly has a long way to go before she can be comfortably ranked alongside Reichs and Cornwell, but her victims will haunt your memories.
