Reviews: Make Life Happier (15)
“A practical, highly readable, compassionate guide to happier life”
(Paperback)
This is a wonderfully written book for all of us who are seeking a happier life for ourselves and others in these troubled times. Mark Williamson combines biography, science and tremendous wisdom gleaned from 15 years of interviewing leading experts in wellness to provide a practical book full of very doable actions to help us (and others) to feel better. I have read many books in this genre and this is up there with the very the best. What sets this book apart from others is the warmth and refreshing honesty of the author as he describes his journeying to a happier and more fulfilled life, the evidence he has drawn on, and the very doable (and fun) ways we can experiment with the ideas he presents. Mark writes with such compassion and intelligence that you will feel as though you are being guided on your journey to a happier life by a wise, trusted and compassionate friend; there is SO much wisdom in this wide ranging book. It is a compelling read from cover to cover but equally insightful if dipped into, and re-visited over and again.
“Practical. Insightful, enjoyable, useful book on happiness!”
(Paperback)
Practical, insightful, fascinating, useful. A refreshingly readable and enjoyable exploration around the most important topic of Happiness. Definitely worth reading. Michael
“You won’t need to put this book down”
(Paperback)
At the end of each chapter there is time to review, to reflect and to understand where we stand on the journey to self improvement. There’s so much more to go into depth with. The present and our future self. Having boundaries. What happiness actually is? Can we have happiness for good?
“Full of great ideas”
(Paperback)
Dr Mark Williamson and Action for Happiness offer such great ideas for how to make the most of the good while not pretending life is perfect. Such a useful book!
“An ideal companion for a happier life”
(Paperback)
I am already an avid reader of books related to the science of happiness but this one really stands out to me. Like other reviewers have noted, Mark's style of writing makes the book particularly accessible and enjoyable. It really feels like he's there with you, guiding you along the way with genuine compassion, honesty and humour. While the knowledge and skills-building it focuses on is rich and evidence-based, the experience of reading it feels really easy and fun.
I could barely read more than two pages before I had to jot down a new insight or action idea! I'm already applying some of these into my life as little low-pressure 'experiments' as Mark recommends, and am feeling noticeably more hopeful and empowered as a result.
I also love the focus on community connection and taking action together. I get a lot of meaning and warm-heartedness from being connected with the Action for Happiness community (Mark is the AFH director). This book captures that spirit and is a powerful reminder that we're all connected and our choices matter more than ever. If you're keen to be happier and support a happier world, I can't recommend this enough!
