I relish the idea of a book set in a prison it’s most likely going to be gritty, tense and full of substance. Locked Up doesn’t disappoint and to add to the excitement one of the prisoners in an ex-cop! Charlie Bell is incarcerated for murder, so surprisingly or maybe not, when an inmate is found dead Charlie’s skill is called upon to investigate. Along with prison guard Ariadne Teddington the pair start working on the case. Teddington is a ballsy character, she is tough and perfectly capable of coping with the obvious leering attention from the male inmates but I particularly like the stance of cop/guard having to pull together to solve this. It certainly adds a major level of interest in my opinion. It appears there are more lies than truths flying around inside and this story gallops along at a pace whereby you have no idea who to trust any more. Beware those that seem kind gentle souls and keep your wits about you is the advice I would give. Locked Up is a brilliant piece of writing that ensures the reader is glued to the page in order not to miss anything. By the end of the book I wanted more .. I hope I’m correct in saying there will be another in the series! My thanks to the author and Bloodhound books for my copy and inviting me onto the tour.
