Reviews: Leviathan (1)
“Leviathan is a commonly missed masterpiece”
(Paperback)
Leviathan is the first book of Auster's that I've had the pleasure of reading, and from my experience of this book I will definitely be exploring the rest of his body of work. Leviathan subverts your expectations of what a narrative has to be by having its cast of characters be authors and creatives. You're not sure if the narrative of the novel is a story being created to mask the events of the characters within the book or if Auster is trying to tell you a story with sincerity. You follow the protagonist Peter Aaron, novelist and narrator of the novel as he reveals to you the circumstances of how he met his best friend Benjamin Sachs, war protester, novelist and urban terrorist. Time becomes fluid and so does your understanding of how a story can be told. With Leviathan, Auster created a commonly missed masterpiece.
