Reviews: Left For Dead (18)
“An excellently written thriller.”
(Paperback)
by Andi Miller
This is the 3rd in the series of DI Amy Winters stories. It made me grateful that I have a divan! Absolutely chilling stuff a brilliantly written story. This book needs to do well as it's so good. I would definitely recommend reading the previous 2 to catch up with the back story which is part of Amy's makeup. You can't help but want to like Amy as she's a stalwart for doing the right thing, even if it means breaking the rules. I am waiting in anticipation for the next chapter. Highly recommended.
“A chilling read”
(Paperback)
by Marnie Harrison
I came to the conclusion instantly when reading this book that I have been such a fool by not having read book one and two in this series. I had seen so much praise for the first two books, but the timing was never right to read them with my other bookish commitments. When I was offered the opportunity to read Left for Dead, the stars finally aligned and I jumped at the chance and dove straight in! For this third instalment, Caroline has crafted an extremely dark tale, that at times can be quite terrifying and disturbing, but also so intriguing. Wasting no time in kicking things off, Caroline boldly reveals the killer very early on in the story, which is always a risky move, but has been masterfully executed in this case. I am always nervous when an author takes this approach as I feel it takes away from the suspense in the build up to the big reveal, but I had nothing to fear and Caroline put my mind at ease. I found Amy’s character quite fascinating and a joy to read. A pocket rocket that just shines through the pages. I would have benefitted more from reading the first two books to get more insight into her, but I knew that going in that this was the third and I took the chance. Although I had no trouble following along, I certainly have missed some vital information on Amy’s biological parents and I will be going back to read the other two books to learn more. The other character that I also found fascinating as weird as it sounds, was the killer himself. Caroline really gets inside his head, which is where the terrifying and disturbing elements that I mentioned in describing the plot comes from. A psychopath in a league of his own, he really does make for a thrilling read. Drawing from her past experience as a police detective, Caroline makes this police procedural realistic and leaves no room for any questions, or scratch of the head moments. She expresses everything so clearly without getting to bogged down in the details and just gets on with it and gives the reader just the information they need to know. I am no stranger to Caroline’s standalone work and I think she is a very talented author and the longer she writes, the longer I will continue to read her work. She has an amazing ability to capture the reader wholeheartedly when reading her work and she really does make it hard to tear yourself away, when each chapter leaves you wanting more. Left for Dead is a fast paced gripping and compelling read that will have you on the edge of your seat. With a strong plot, a strong female protagonist, a cast of very well developed secondary characters and a taste of what’s to come for the next instalment, this is one cracker of a read that I can’t recommend highly enough. Well done on another fantastic read Caroline and I look forward to the next instalment. Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas and Mercer and Caroline Mitchell for allowing me to read an advanced copy of Left For Dead which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
“Superb detective crime thriller”

Another fantastic read in the DI Amy Winter series. Like the previous books I just loved this one. A gripping crime thriller that had me hooked from the beginning.
“This book will have you checking under your bed. A great read”
(Paperback)
by Kerrie Kelly
Caroline has done it again. Just finished this book and will be checking under my bed before I get in it for a while. 3rd in the Amy Winter series, we follow the case as she hunts for The Loveheart Killer. While out shopping with her sister, they look into a window display and Amy spots something isn’t right. The dummy is in fact a dead body. We meet wealthy business man Samual Black owner of Black Media the company behind the Display. On the outside he appears to be a family man but Amy sees beneath this facade and is determined to put his crimes to an end
“A gripping read, can't wait for the next installment”
(Paperback)
by Jennifer Dawson
This is the 3rd book in the series. You can read this and still enjoy it without having read the first two, which is what I have done. I do really want to go and read the first two now after reading this one. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's all about a DI Amy Winter, who while out shopping with her sister, comes across a gruesome shop window, with a real woman dressed in a wedding dress like a mannequin, except she is dead. The story follows her trying to figure out who the killer is that is targeting young women online and murdering them, then leaving them in a public place for everyone to see. We find out who the killer is pretty early on in the story, but this allows part of the narrative to be from the killers POV. So rather than this book be a 'who's done it', it's more of a 'will they be caught' kind of story. There is a lot of reference to the background of Amy Winter, which would have been covered in the first 2 books. She is the daughter of a serial killer who is currently in prison. I definitely want to read them to find out more of her background. There will be a 4th book coming out in the series, which I will definitely be checking out.
