A superior and genuinely (knife) edge of your seat contemporary thriller. With themes that resonate and a plot which could easily be playing out in the world that we find ourselves, Simon Mayo has written a book that will keep you up late into the night. The tension remains taut and the narrative is superbly paced with twists and turns which maximise interest. Knife Edge is extremely well conceived and written but the real strength is in the characters and how they each add to the plot. Thoroughly recommended. This was an excellent read. Who knew a radio DJ would turn out to be such a good writer? But then look at ITV news anchor Tom Bradby. If you haven't read any of his books, check him out.  But back to Knife Edge. Exciting from the start with a great main protagonist (flawed of course but they need to be don't they?) and a cast of characters that would make a brilliant TV series. I wonder if this book will be part of a series with Famie and her daughter Charlie and certain others cropping up again - can't say who because of spoilers. It rattled along and I had to stay up last night to finish it once I had got 75% of the way through. My only issue was with the 'action scenes'. I don't blame the author for this. They must be extremely hard to write and I rarely come across a book where they work well when the action unfolds so quickly. They always work better on screen. Today is the 22nd May and seven murders have been committed in less than half an hour. Seven stabbiblngs committed by seven attackers. Each of the victim worked as investigators at the International Press Service in London. Famie Madden sees the events unfolding live at her desk. She's hearing all seven of her colleagues are dead. In the coming weeks she attends their funerals. When she gets back to her car, tgeres a cryptic note left under her window wiper. She receives more messages and so does some of her collegues. They de idea to do their own investigation into the messages. Simon Mayo is a well known British BBC radio DJ. The opening to this story is quite shocking. The pace is steady with lots going on, you just have to keep turning the pages. There's some good twists with a few edge of your seat moments. The story did dip a bit in the middle but just for a short time. The book has one of the best opening chapters that I've read. This is an addictive thriller. A well written thriller with some clever twists. I'm not sure it adds very much that is new to the genre but reading a journalist viewpoint of terrorist attacks was an interesting take. Thank you to netgalley and random house for an advance copy of this book

This debut thriller from author Simon Mayo will grip you from the start with it's fast moving plot. The books opening begins with seven murders in London, all taking place simultaneously. Seven separate killers and seven dead journalists working for the same company. The murders have been carried out by an anti fascist group and they intend to continue with their onslaught. The story follows lead character Famie Madden who knew the victims personally and who is herself living in fear. She starts to receive messages from a mysterious source and is unsure whether she is been given a warning of more attacks or threats against her personally. This page turner is a very fast moving story and will keep the reader interested.
