If you like your stories to be a quirky blend of gritty realism and romanticism with quiet, well-observed humour thrown in for good measure, then this elegantly written tale is definitely for you. The edgy drama, which escalates it into a real page-turner as the story progresses, is well-tempered with quite beautiful and poignant observations about the life of birds as seen through the eyes of the teenage protagonist. There's a twist - which I genuinely did not see coming - and some clever questionmarks near the close - that just made me want to read it all over again. Both pacy and thought-provoking, if you liked Joanne Harris' Gentlemen and Players, David Mitchell's Black Swan Green and/or Sarah Water's The Little Stranger then you'll love this.

You won't want to put this book down! This cleverly written plot - with a twist you'd never expect - will keep you reading until the last page is turned.

This is a must for all 16 year olds...and older...Is this the new modern Kes? Its full of interesting imformation of birds, analogies, gritty drama, sensitive and beautifully written. A refreshing piece of literature.
