You've got to hand it to Adele Parks - her plots may be melodramatic but she knows how to deliver a story! I can't say much about the plot of this one, as it will give way the plot of its prequel "The Two of Us" which I would definitely advise reading before you read this. Suffice to say DCI Clements is still pursuing unanswered questions about the disappearance of two men's wives from the previous book, and is taking an interest in them and their families in order to hunt down the truth. But things are not all what they seem and people are not all what they say. This was an exciting and fast-paced story with different threads coming together to a highly dramatic denouement. Just as in "The Two of Us" there are plenty twists and turns along the way, keeping the reader wholly involved with the plot and the characters. As is usual with an Adele Parks' book, flawed, vulnerable female characters take centre stage. They may not be angels, but their strength and resilience make them endearing. My empathy for them over-rides any doubts I might have about how realistic the plot might be. Who cares anyway? It's fiction. It's great to read. It's all I want from a domestic thriller noir.

I’ve been such a fan of Adele Parks’ for numerous years now. I have read Both of You, but if you haven’t, don’t be put off as you will be able to pick it all up anyway. Just Between Us is a gripping story, Adele Parks has that magic that gets you sucked into a book and you don’t want to put it down.

Just Between Us is the long awaited sequel to Both of Us a book that I really enjoyed .It could easily be read as a standalone though .There are two different story lines which eventually entwine .What a good read ,loved the twists and turns ,a great plot and all the loose ends of the previous novel are neatly tied up in a great ending .Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC.

Kylie Gillingham disappeared around March 2020 and is presumed dead since there is clear evidence that she was abducted and imprisoned after she was last seen. As to motive, the obvious one is that she was a bigamist (Leigh Fletcher or Kai Janssen), which gets in the way of the usual “the husband did it” scenario. However, the evidence rather neatly fits Daan Janssen, or does it too neatly fit him up? He is currently on bail under house arrest in his native Denmark, partly because he is very rich and partly because we are in full Covid lockdown. Meanwhile, Mark Fletcher and his two sons remain in London. Although the boys are Leigh’s step sons, they cannot believe she has abandoned them and nor can they accept she has been murdered. Meanwhile, Stacie Jones, recovering from an operation to remove a brain tumour, is living with her father, a retired doctor, in a remote cottage near Lyme Regis; close to where the Fletcher family took frequent holidays. Does she have some trapped memory which relates to the crime? Is Kylie really dead? If so, did Daan kill her? The book is a sequel to Parks’s best seller “Both of Us”, but works perfectly well as a standalone. The plot is complicated with some interesting twists, but it isn’t very difficult to work it out. For the most part the actions of the characters are consistent with who and what they are, but the ending does get a bit unlikely. A point of interest is the rôle of the Lockdown in the plot. The first lockdown started in March 2020, as does the story, and finished on 3rd July, as does the story, and the plot just wouldn’t work if the population were not constrained to bubbles and social distancing. This is the first book I’ve read which really addresses this issue, others have at most alluded to it as something that happened, and I applaud the author for using it as a proper plot device. As an acknowledgement to this, I’ve given it an extra half star. The best book I have ever listened to (tend to listen to books these days due to time). I couldn’t wait to wake up in the morning to listen to it. I couldn’t get it out my head when I’d finished! Amazing writing.
