Reviews: Jackpot (1)
“The go-to book about everything to do with gambling”
(Paperback)
by sophie
Full disclosure - I am the author's mother BUT, despite any bias, this is a must read for anyone with concerns about the damage that the insidious and growing intrusion of gambling is doing to British society and individuals' lives. It is very readable, all 374 pages of it. While it is not a polemic ( the facts speak for themselves) it does comprehensively cover all aspects of gambling including the growth and scale of addiction with its social and human impact, the tricks the sector uses to suck in the punters, fears for a future in which young children are growing up in a world of gambling ads and social media, the joined-at-the-hip relationship with football and, importantly, suggests pointers to policies that forthcoming gambling legislation could, and probably should adopt.
