As Claire becomes more and more involved with them, she finds herself falling in love with Harry. Harry is a writer, but he is having problems with writer's block after his first best seller. So he moves his wife and young son to Rome, in the hope of recovering his ability to write. As the tale unfolds, the inevitable betrayal leads to pain and separation. Walter narrates the story with an interesting mix of compassion and sadness as he watches his best friend’s life fall apart. This is a brilliant debut novel, drawing you into the tale, and forcing the reader to feel the sense of betrayal and loss as the affair takes hold and wrecks the lives of all concerned

I did not want to put this book down, it was so compelling. Charles Dubow gives us brilliantly drawn characters, with some very positive qualities but also showing flaws. The characters were very likeable even when the consequences of some of their actions were so destructive to those around them. The Author's descriptions of the locations where the story takes place are also so well crafted that it added to the atmoshere of the novel. I can not think of anything negative about this novel and really hope that anyone reading it enjoys it as much as I did

Just read indiscretion by Charles Dubow. Took me a few chapters to get into the book but then I was hooked. Very emotional book. Very good. Outside of my usual reads but highly recommended!

Indiscretion was a compelling read. I enjoyed the story being told by a secondary character which gave it an unusual angle but it really worked. You could tell whose side he was on but you could also tell he cared about the other people involved which made it all the more heartfelt. The characters were wonderfully written and the descriptions of places were really vivid. Without giving away the plot, the way the author introduced a certain event worked brilliantly and had all the more impact for following the previous chapter. It was a book that I couldn't put down.

This stunning debut novel from Charles Dubow paints a picture of an idealised life: the beautiful, successful couple, buffered by adoring, witty friends,and a social ease & elegance that all others aspire to. Yet somehow, lust and desire manage to sneak in, creating havoc & destruction, causing me to yell at the page whilst on the train to work, 'No No No!' The repercussions of the infidelity are surprising...I'd like to say more but, well, read it and then we'll discuss it. Beautiful, tragic and lingering: a wonderful book.
