I Made a Mistake is another great read by Jane Corry and the third of her novels that I have very much enjoyed. The two main characters are Poppy and her mother-in-law Betty. Poppy’s marriage to Stuart is rather stale when her first serious love, Matthew, appears at a work gathering. Poppy does her best to do the right thing but gets drawn in when she hears of Matthew’s challenging personal circumstances living with a wife seriously disabled and needing carers. One thing leads to another and another.... The story switches between Poppy’s ‘mistake’ (well quite a few really) and hearing the back story of Betty via a letter written by Betty to Poppy. As the books progresses we learn that Betty’s marriage to Jock was far from perfect either. There were plenty of secrets to unfold and drama to keep you turning the pages. Another great book by Jane Corry, its a compelling read told in alternative chapters by the point of views of Poppy, her mother in law Betty and a murder trial, although we don’t find out who’s died and who’s on trial until towards the end of the book. Poppy is a wife and mother who makes a mistake one night by sleeping with an ex boyfriend, her life then starts unravelling. Betty tells her life story in the form of letters to Poppy from the moment she meets her future husband to now. As the women keep telling their story and the trial continues, tales of domestic violence, affairs, betrayals, but also commitment and love for your family are revealed. I really enjoyed reading this book and would highly recommend it. Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Books for letting me review this book.

I absolutely loved Poppy the main character. My heart went out to her after she thought she still loved her first true love. Her mother in law was great and I loved that her life story is told alongside Poppy's. Tragedy strikes but as a result life eventually gets better for Poppy and her family. Never give up, all is not lost.

A strong ensemble of characters and a well executed plot keep this book steadily heading towards its final denouement. Beginning with a death, and mainly concerning the thoughts of the two main protagonists, Polly and her Mother in law Betty, we learn the facts behind and leading up to that death. This book is very well written and hard to put down. I highly recommend it, and would like to thank Netgalley and the Publishers for this early readers copy

As soon as I picked this up I knew I wouldn’t be putting it down until I finished. This book is told from Poppys perspective but we also read her mum in laws life told from her perspective in a letter to Poppy. The story goes between the two seamlessly. This was a gripping read and I loved it. I disliked Matthew immediately. I’ll read this book again. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC in return for an honest and unbiased opinion.
