Juno Dawson's excellent plotting and character work pays off tremendously in this witty and wonderful finale! With so many characters and plot points taking place, the first half had me questioning how she was going to pull it all off in the end. But, just like magic, it all impeccably falls into place and it's so brilliant you can't help but be completely awed by it all. I am very impressed with what Juno Dawson has achieved in this finale, and with this series in general. The narrative is so well crafted, the books are so clever and chic and the characters and tone relatable and approachable. After that crazy cliff hanger in book two, book three goes all in on revealing truths and telling the reader what's what. But it's all done in a really sophisticated way that makes it all the more gratifying. And oh my Goddess, I love all the characters so much. The Coven and Coven-adjacent characters really make up the heart of these books, and that's what is so, so special about HMRC. I'm going to miss them so much. I think this is going to be one of those series that I reread over and over again throughout the years of my life so I can re-experience that love and sisterhood all over again. Plus, after this powerful showstopper of a book, I just KNOW that a reread is going to hit so hard! Thanks to Harper for the surprise review copy! Opening that package felt like the best day of my life.

Human Rites had me HOOKED. It’s bold, smart, and deeply unsettling in all the best ways. Juno Dawson doesn’t hold back — the social commentary? Sharp. The worldbuilding? So scarily believable. I loved how messy and real the characters felt, even when I didn’t agree with them. It’s the kind of book that leaves you thinking long after you’ve finished. Not quite a five-star-haunt-my-dreams read, but it came so close!

The story is fast paced and sometimes confusing, but time travel is always a bit confusing to my brain. All the loose ends are tied up with a satisfying conclusion even though it’s nothing like I’d have imagined. There continues to be a lot of LGBTQIA+ (especially trans) representation in this series which is appreciated & needed in literature. I also liked that the main characters are mid-late 30s as in fantasy women always seem to be teenagers or at most early 20s, it made it a bit more relatable for me as I’m sure it is for teenagers who can relate to Theo & Holly.
