Reviews: Human Rites (57)
“A Banger of a Conclusion”
(Hardback)
by Katy Wheatley
I have loved journeying through this adventure with the witches of HMRC. This series has been an injection of fresh air into the world of urban fantasy writing. Smart, funny, fast paced writing that doesn't flinch from difficult subjects and a perfect blend of great story-telling and a brilliantly snappy approach to horror/violence. I applaud Dawson's blend of playfulness and dead seriousness. This series feels revolutionary to me. I did love this final book, which tied up all the loose ends very satisfactorily and gave a very good conclusion. My only sadness was that this felt a little rushed and I would have loved it to have been two books rather than one. Perhaps that's just me being sad that it's over, because I really am.
“An epic and emotional finale of this series!”

What a ride! Human Rites delivers everything I hoped for and so much more. I couldn't wait to dive straight into this book after finishing The Shadow cabinet, and I was swept up immediately in the most epic fantasy I've ever read set in our modern world. Juno Dawson has a remarkable talent for blending the everyday with the extraordinary, and this installment truly explores that magic in a way that feels both fresh and deeply rooted. One of the aspects I adored most was the detailed exploration of the magic. It dove even deeper into solidly established elements but also introduced new facets that enriched the lore of the series. It is almost impossible to talk about this book without getting into spoilers, but I'll give it a go anyway. This last instalment dives even deeper into the history of these beloved witches and the monumental moments that have shaped their lives. Every turn of the page brought a mix of joy, heartbreak, and jaw-dropping twists that kept me turning the pages well into the night. I went on this emotional rollercoaster right alongside them, feeling every high and low as their stories interwove with one another, making the hardships all the more real and the victories all the sweeter. It’s clear that the witches of HMRC have grown in ways that have captured my heart completely. Every single character became someone I could not help but care for. Their journeys, with all the twists and complex emotions, have left a lasting impression on me, and I'm really sad that this series is over. It was truely magnificent, and unforgettable as a whole and I can't wait to see what Juno Dawson will come up with in the future. If you crave an epic fantasy that is rooted in our modern world, this is a must read journey you won't soon forget. Thanks to HarperCollins UK for providing me with a proof copy via NetGalley.
“The perfect end to a spectacular series”

In the final instalment of Juno Dawson's epic Her Majesty's Royal Coven series, the Hebden Bridge witches must come face to face with their destinies and with Satanis himself. How do you end one of the best book series - i'm gonna say it - ever; how do you do justice to such amazing characters who have been through so much; and how do you end a final book in a series known for its amazing/insane cliffhangers? If you're Juno Dawson, you absolutely smash it out of the park. Making sure this review is spoiler free, I will just say that I loved where the author took each of her characters, giving them all great moments in which to shine, confront the difficulties of their past, and find who they want to be. You can feel the love the author has for all of her witches (and warlocks). As with HMRC and The Shadow Cabinet, Human Rites is full of amazing set pieces (from the mythical, Mediterranean island of Aeaea to a post-apocalyptic Hebden Bridge) and thrilling action scenes, as well as just the right amount of romantic intrigue. It moved me to tears many times and had me on the edge of my seat as I awaited what would become of Hebden's finest. I have devoured all 4 books in this series (Queen B is a delicious piece of historical fantasy fiction) and they are some of the most compelling books I have ever read. Basically, I can't praise Human Rites enough. It is the perfect end to the perfect contemporary fantasy story. I am going to miss these witches and I can't wait to see what Dawson writes next.
“Epic conclusion to the HMRC series!”

by Batya’s Books
Juno Dawson has pulled off an epic conclusion to the HMRC series, satisfying and devastating in equal measure! I was so lucky to be approved for the eARC right after I finished book 2, and I devoured Human Rites in two sleepless nights. I then had to grieve saying goodbye to my Hebden girlies before I could write a review! The action picks up directly after Shadow Cabinet. I really can’t describe the plot without giving away spoilers. Suffice to say Juno must have had a massive spreadsheet going to map everything out! As ever, Dawson is queen of the plot twist and never cliché!
“Brilliant finale”
(Hardback)
by Emma Ashley
Human Rites is the final book in the HMRC series by Juno Dawson. what a brilliant finale this was. From page one I was hooked and drawn into the story. I loved joining the characters for this final book. The whole series is well written with a cast of characters that you can connect with. I was so eager for this book but now I'm sad it's over. If you haven't read the HMRC series, then I highly recommend it. I'm already eager to see what Juno Dawson writes next.
