McDermid is on top form once again with the latest in her series of Tony Hill/Carol Jordan novels. The queen of psychological thrillers deftly weaves an intriguing story surrounding bodies found in an abandoned convent and a series of more recent murders. She keeps the suspense going while at the same time concentrating on the troubled relationship between her two leading characters. I would like to have seen the character and motives behind the crimes developed more, but this is a minor quibble and no way detracts from another gripping story which leaves you wanting to find out just how Tony and Carol’s relationship develops. Can’t wait to find out.
