Its no wonder this book won many awards when first published. It is excellent and very informative on the lives of those affected by the after effects of the bomb. Fully recommended.

I have a love of history but had never read anything on Hiroshima until I read this. I myself can't begin to imagine the pure horror that these people faced in the aftermath of the A bomb hitting their town but this book describes in detail what happened to some survivors of this man made disaster. The book covers the after effects on their long term health and their day to day struggles just to survive against the odds. The book only touches briefly on the moral aspects of the dropping of the bomb itself. All in all an excellent book about a terrible act by man.

I saw oppenheimer and bought this book. as scary and horrifying the events of hiroshima and nagasaki are, this book showcased not only the magnitude and the destructive force the A-bomb had on the japanese but also their unrivalled spirit and optimistic attitude even during such calamities.

This book describes in vivid colours, the complete and total annihilation of the city of Hiroshima. John Hersey's book is one of the few history books I've read which didn't over complicate the subject matter with a barrage of dry information and focused all of it's content on the inspirational stories of a handful of individuals who survived one of histories darkest days. This is an incredibly important book which I will remember forever.
