“Good read in an unusual setting”
(Paperback)
by PJW
I read this book as part as on online book group. I thought it was good storyline set in a nature reserve. It wasn't without fault, I would have like more backstory details on the characters, but it was a good read and I would recommend. I didn't see the final twist and I thought it was a great ending. I would have liked a map of the reserve to let me picture the setting clearer in my mind. Based on my experience with this story, I would read other books from the same author.
“A plot that keeps revealing one more step right to the very last pages”
(Paperback)
by J Robinson
Told in turns by all of the characters and yet still leaves the reader unclear as to who or what is at the root of this whodunnit. Characters are realistically portrayed with each having a possible motive to confound both the other characters and the reader. A plot that keeps revealing one more step right to the very last pages.
“Tense”
(Paperback)
by Michellle De Alwis
Thank you, Avon, and NetGalley for a copy of Hide by Nell Pattison. I was excited when I saw the author had a new book out and I jumped at the chanced to request it. It is Boxing day; seven friends decide to go bird watching at a local nature reserve when one of them ends up dead. There is no telephone signal to call the Police and each of them don’t know whether to trust each other and when the weather closes in, they all try and fight to get back to the visitor’s centre, they struggle. But they are also scared. There is a killer on the loose and it must be one of them but whom? The story is told in each character’s point of view which I liked, telling us of their circumstances and how it led to this day. This is a tense, gripping. High octane thriller that I enjoyed except for the ending which I found to be a little flat. 4 stars from me.
“Amazing ending”
(Paperback)
by Angie Holdsworth
What an ending, the tension and characterisation in the last few paragraphs is brilliant! The book as a whole is a solid 4 star, I felt it was a little drawn out at times and the tension did not sustain throughout. I’m not sure which bits you could cut but just seemed a little too drawn out. Maybe Ben’s story was unnecessary? A good read that is full of intrigue, twists and turns. The character of Lauren was well written, as was Kai. A fast paced thriller set over a few hours, kept my interest and the ending was brilliantly written.
“Suspenseful”
(Paperback)
by Catherine Craig Angelic Light
This book is perfect to read at this time of the year, and I really enjoyed listening to it while I was painting my house. The story is about different characters coming together to do some bird watching in nature, but one of the group are killed, and so they all go on high alert and try to stay safe. The beginning of the book was a bit slow, but after the murder, it became fast paced and more exciting. The narrators of the book were fantastic and they all did a good job of portraying each character. I liked the way each voice brought more depth to the story and I felt like I was in a movie, with a lot of tension and suspense. It was all very exciting and I found that I wanted to keep listening, to find out what was going to happen next. I didn't feel very connected to any of the characters; it was more like the story and setting were at the forefront, rather than each character having a full story, although some of them did have some things going on, which were revealed nearer the end of the book, and this was interesting. Overall, the book was good and it kept me engrossed until the end.
