Seven members of a nature group in Lincolnshire decide to meet up on Boxing Day to have a hike round the local nature reserve and try to watch a starling murmuration. Lauren works at the nature reserve. Her and Emily are sisters but were estranged for 11 years and have only recently got back in touch, earlier this year. There are lots of emotions and past recriminations simmering beneath the surface and they're still trying to suss each other out and to forget what happened years ago. The other members are Alec, Ben, Dan, Kai and Morna, and they're all of differing ages and characters. They're an unusual collection of people, more acquaintances than friends, and all seem to have their own intriguing secrets to hide. When one of the party is murdered with a shotgun, we're taken on a tense, traumatic and terrifying trek around the nature reserve as the group try to work out who carried out the killing, how to avoid being the next victim and how to alert the authorities. They seem to keep selecting the least favourable option every time, like one of those choose your own adventure books, and I was just waiting for the worst to happen at every turn! Overall, this was an intense, claustrophobic and twisty read and I was never sure who to trust. I kept suspecting each of them and was also wondering whether an outside influence was to blame. The story was told from the viewpoint of each character and I was trying to put all the pieces of the puzzle together but failed miserably! It was slightly slow at times and most of the characters were really frustrating but it was entertaining and held my interest and I couldn't wait to find out who and why!

This book was ok, but I was not blown away by it. The premise was great, group of people going for a winter walk on a nature reserve. They all have secrets and as the day progresses, the secrets become more pressing. I honestly felt totally confused by how many times they walked round the nature reserve and which was they are actually going. I also felt that the ending was a bit silly. There was an awful lot of "is someone out there" going on. Red herrings galore. It was a shame as when I started reading I was really enjoying it, but I felt that the author ran out of ideas of what to do with the characters..

Written from seven perspectives, this tells the story of seven friends out on a nature walk when one of them is killed. As we learn about each friend, we are kept guessing. The final twist was totally unexpected! I really enjoyed the unusual setting and the inclusion of a deaf character.

As the sun sets, a gunshot rings out on the nature reserve. One of the seven is dead. And one of their number killed them… The setting is a countryside park and a group meet to have a trek. However, each seems to have their own secrets that they don't want disclosed to the rest of the group. The plot for this thriller is engaging and keeps you guessing as to what will happen. The environment is well described and sets the scene. An enjoyable thriller.

A group of bird watchers head out together to watch a starling murmuration, only for one of them to be murdered. But who did it, and why? I really enjoyed Nell Pattison's other books so I was quite excited to get the opportunity to read this one, and I was so disappointed with it. For me, the trouble was that there were just too many characters and I kept getting them mixed up (all these men with three letter names - Dan, Ben, Kai - they just all blended into one), The series of coincidences and interconnections that led to them all having good reasons for being a murderer was of course necessary to the whodunnit plot but at the same time felt contrived and unlikely. Most of the story was just people running around a snowy nature reserve in a bit of a panic.
