Reviews: Hidden Roots (1)
“A fabulous finale to a gripping trilogy”
(Paperback)
With Hidden Roots, the Citrus Cove trilogy comes to end, and it just might be Clio Evans has kept the best till last with Emma Madden and Hunter Harlow’s story. She’s the girl who lives in a pink house and he’s the brooding farmer she tasered the moment she met him three years before…... well she did mistake him for a serial killer…... and given the recent history of the town that could almost be classed as a ‘meet cute’. From that moment, the battle lines were drawn even as the connections between them strengthened as their friends and family paired off and there was definitely a frisson of something there at least on Hunter’s part as he chased off her would be suitors. Until a case of wrong place, right time sees Emma claim Hunter as her boyfriend, something Hunter, with his overprotective hackles raised soon escalates to fiancé when her ex-husband comes calling with remarriage on his mind. But the more time they spend together pretending, the more the line between fact and fiction begins to blur but when danger strikes, it soon becomes clear that there are sinister forces at work once again in Citrus Cove.
If you like a healthy helping of kink with your romantic suspense, then this is the series for you. You’ve gotta love a hero who isn’t afraid to hand over the reins in the bedroom to raise the spice level with his lady love and I loved the dynamics between Hunter and Emma, they were perfect for each other and so evenly matched with some fantastic dialogue between them and as for chemistry, well that was definitely scorching. The overall story in Hidden Roots was well written with the suspense and tension building throughout and even if the villains of the piece and their motives were perhaps a little predictable, I didn’t care as I was engrossed as the story unfolded and left me eager to read what this author comes up with next.
