As expected, Ben Rothery's new book is another marvellous piece of art and nature. It's a must read for all nature lovers of all ages.

Another beautiful masterpiece from this highly skilled artist. The creatures look so real and the detail is incredible. It must have been a real labour of love. We really enjoyed his first offering, Sensational Butterflies and this second book is just as wonderful. My 7 year old especially has enjoyed reading about all the different animals and he was blown away by the drawings. Highly recommended and this would make anyone a wonderful gift from age 3-100.

With gorgeous, detailed illustrations that really inspire that sense of awe and wonder the best of nature should alongside interesting, unusual and informative text, this is truly a must-have for nature lovers of all ages!

George and I complete our reading of the picture books in the Waterstones Children's Book Prize with this natural history/sketchbook hybrid which seeks out a niche and pulls it off with ease. Now, this book's target reading age is quite a bit above George's experience having been on this hidden planet for only one year, but we have in a few sessions looked at the beautiful illustrations from cover to cover. And it's the illustrations that really elevate this above many, many other natural history books for children. This packed book is a feast for the eyes and an inspiration for any burgeoning artists with fine sketch work alongside coloured fine line illustrations. An interesting take on the hidden behaviours of the natural world and a beautiful experience flicking through the pages. George is too young now, but I relish the day we get to sit together when he's older and enjoy this magical book again.
