Reviews: Here Be Giants (5)
“Clever and laugh out loud”
(Paperback)
This is the entertaining and very funny tale of a hapless knight searching for an elusive giant. It’s beautifully written and the illustrations are super detailed and gorgeous with tonnes of comic details for children to pour over. Both the words and artwork are so clever as they ask the little reader to really focus on what’s actually happening in the story - when my seven- year-old realised the joke partway through he was delighted! Loved the knight’s voice too EGADS! A brilliant girl power message too! A book we will go back to again and again.
“A very funny sequel to Here Be Dragons”
(Paperback)
Our hapless knight and his long-suffering horse are setting off on a perilous quest to find a giant. The whole thing is a joy. Told from the point of view of the completely idiotic knight, this is one of those books that are so fun to read out loud because the words tell one story, and the pictures tell a completely different one. Young children will love spotting all the clues and you'll be itching to shout "he's behind you!" at the knight. I may also have to grow myself an identical moustache.
“Simply brilliant!”
(Paperback)
This book is simply brilliant! It's such a joy to read out loud, with such a fantastic play between the hilarious story being told by the hapless knight and the wonderful illustrations that reveal the truth of the situation. This is a book that challenges gender stereotypes and is guaranteed to make you smile!
“Brilliant fun!”
(Paperback)
This is another exciting ‘look behind you’ type of story from the brilliant Susannah Lloyd and Paddy Donnelly, who previously gave us HERE BE DRAGONS. As with the first book in this series, there is so much to spot, and the unwritten sub text going on in the illustrations is sure to generate heaps of giggles and excited chatter! Children always love to be in the know when the main character is not— and the hapless knight in this story is once again both hapless, and hopeless! I absolutely love this book, and hope there will be more.
“Funny and clever!”
(Paperback)
We smiled all the way through this book. It is SO clever, with the hilarious text speaking from the point of view of the knight who doesn't see what's right under his nose - but the reader does! The beautiful illustrations show so much more in the story, and kids will be shouting at the knight about where the giant is. An added bonus of girl power, with the damsel coming to the rescue. Very highly recommended - a clever and funny read!
