Reviews: Hands-On Unity 6 Game Development (1)
“I expected more”
(Paperback)
I was just getting started with the book, and frustrated already. Published in 2025, I thought it would be current using Unity's new input system, but no, he is using deprecated code (outdated) that may quit working in the future. In the book, code examples are in a very light font, so light that you have to strain to see what is written. The first example it doesn't say whether to use a 2d or 3d template, and of course I guessed wrong the first time and had to go back and start again and use the other. Maybe it will get better from here, I can only hope.
I expect there is good info in the book, but it is frustrating that I have to go to the effort to modernize keyboard input for every example or be willing to use the deprecated code.
I don't know why the state of the art for computer books sometimes is so bad. No proofreading, publisher indifference as to whether the text is easily readable. In the old days I would browse the store and could see before buying.
