I hope you have some tissues nearby because you'll need them for this book! The final installation of Sally Green's Half Bad trilogy is, to put it simply, brilliant. Green certainly saved the best till last, taking us on one final rollercoaster of a journey before wrapping up in style. There was laughter, anger and tears as I read the book but it was all worth it. Nathan has grown so much as a character and it was so good to finally see him seek some revenge on those who'd punished him all of his life because of who he was. His ever changing relationships with Gabriel and Celia bought fresh excitement to the story and it was beautiful to see how all their tales intertwined with one another. I for one am certainly going to miss this universe and these characters. Sally tied everything up as the book drew to a close and though the ending is bittersweet, it was such a joy to read such a wonderful trilogy. One that I am sure I will be reading again. Wow! What an ending to this brilliant trilogy. I take my hat off to Sally Green she can write some breath-taking and gripping books. The start of the book was quite a shock as it showed how much the ending of Half wild had affected Nathan. Gone was the light heated and funny Nathan, replaced by a dark and distant one. Though he still managed to make me laugh even if his jokes were darker! But it was the ending that made this book for me. So jam packed with emotion and meaning I have to say it made me cry not just with sadness but joy as well. I think any other ending wouldn't have fitted even if it was happier and I know that doesn't make much sense but it will if you read it. So yeah an absolute cracker of a book, ending and trilogy as a whole. Definitely one of my favourites.

Nathan Byrn has never had an easy life and after the loss and betrayal he suffered in the last book Half Wild there is a great deal for him to come to terms with in his young life. He needs to control his new powers and handle his desire for revenge, both of which are proving very difficult. The war has escalated between the Council and the Alliance of Free Witches of which Nathan is a part of, even though he is often treated with fear and mistrust. Actual and assumed betrayal and undying friendship play a large part in this book. All I can say without giving too much away is that you may need a handkerchief. Excellent, unique storyline from Sally Green. Unflinching and gritty writing yet able to show the emotions of the characters in a way we find believable and can understand. I am looking forward to what she tackles next.

A fitting end to a series that rapidly forged a special, dark place amongst my favourite teen reads. Utterly devastated just doesn't seem to cover this evocative and wondrously imagined conclusion as Nathan, Gabriel and Annalise face their final challenges in a world plagued with deceit, violence and discrimination. You will cry, I dare you not to.

The final instalment of the Half Bad series. And it's bloodier than ever! It was a bit of a slow start. The Alliance has to recover from Marcus' death, and it takes a long time before things actually start to happen. Nathan is mourning the loss of his father, but also wants to take revenge on Annalise. Green's writing is so simple, but the simplicity makes it that much more poignant. You really feel as if Nathan is one with nature. His simple emotions and directness are quite refreshing in YA novels, in which most characters have a tendency to overcomplicate their feelings or have developed a sudden skill in reading people's emotions. Not so for Nathan though.He is down to earth, easy to read and direct. That's not to say that he hasn't got complicated emotions though. I feel like this is Green's most ambitious book when it comes to Nathan. He has to deal with a lot of complicated feelings and Green has worked it out in such a way, that you really feel part of that journey. I would have like the ending to be longer though. I like Green's writing, but it does sometimes mean that intense and action packed scenes don't read like they are intense and full of action. It is a bit too bland and it's a shame. The final should be the best part of the book, it is what these 3 books have let up too, but it's just a bit of an anti-climax. The final chapter of the book though, might be the best part of all three books combined. Absolutely breathtaking.
