It is hard to believe that as late as the 1960s many parts of the Home Counties retained their essentially rural character despite their proximity to the London metropolis. The London Transport Guy Specials, introduced in 1953 to replace the Leyland Cubs, played an integral but minor role in the country bus network. These distinctive vehicles were ideally suited to cover lower capacity less frequent routes in rural areas. This book covers the history and technical specifications of GS services, with details of routes operated, garage allocations, vehicle movements and periods of service all discussed on a regional basis. The authors' in depth knowledge and hands on experience of the subject is exemplary and this book provides a perfect accompaniment to Mr Aves superb 'Green' volumes. There are many illustrations evoking memories of bygone scenes in rural locations. I would have preferred detailed maps of GS routes instead of long lists of duty rosters. Nonetheless this is another high quality publication from Capital Transport.
