I loved this. It's a chunky book, but then when it's Marian Keyes as the author I am excited by extra chunk. It means more of her to love, and love her I do. This is the best yet. A sprawling, beast of a novel with many characters, all of whom are wonderfully written. It tells the story of an extended family and the difference between the outward facing perfection and the internal strife and problems of too many disparate people rubbing up against each other. It's funny and sad and dark and perfect to get lost in. I wanted it to go on forever. I wanted it to be serialised and doled out every week like the Archers. It's splendid.

I love Marian Keyes’ books and this new one is no exception. She’s warm, funny, insightful and never scared to tackle really serious issues. She doesn’t sugar-coat things - her characters are fully formed and complicated. They make stupid decisions just like real people in real life and you will often find yourself raging at them for their inability to get things right whilst also feeling incredibly sorry for them as well. You’ll feel like you’ve known them all your life! Whilst reading this book, I laughed out loud in all sorts of inappropriate places and cried my eyes out (also in inappropriate places); I couldn’t put it down. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

What a treat an advance copy of the new Marian Keyes book and I loved it. It is full of funny sad humour and a great storyline. I am yet to read a book by her I haven't loved. If you need a pick me up like sliding into your pyjamas and snuggling on the sofa this is it. It is like meeting your best friend unexpectedly Pre order this book it will cheer you up. The characters are real you feel like you are part of their circle and I feel bereft now it is finished Fantastic!!

I have loved Marian’s writing since I read my first of her books, Sushi for Beginners almost 20 years ago. I have never discovered another writer who can deal so sensitively with difficult subject matter and make me laugh out loud and cry as I identify so strongly with her characters. Her books might at first glance seem lighthearted, but once you get into them you discover that at their heart is a serious issue, such as addiction, grief or mental health. Grown Ups is written in the same vein. Initially a tale of the relationships between three brothers and their families, we soon learn that there is far more going on than we might at first realise. Lives which on the surface might seem perfect have their own challenges which can put so much strain on a relationship that it can be at risk of collapsing. Marian also manages to insert pertinent political issues into her books in such a way as seems natural while still shedding light on current issues which need to be addressed. The characters are completely believable and you find yourself warming to them despite their flaws (apart from a couple whom you’ll love to hate!). I always finish a Marian Keyes book wishing I could meet the characters and be friends with them, they feel so really to me. I thoroughly recommend this book and felt bereft when I’d finished reading it.
