Grimoire is an astonishing collection of poems. Rooted in the Scottish countryside and language this is a collection of dark tales that explore what happens when we strip off the Disney veneer of fairy stories and get to the bones. Violent, bloody and mad, the people here who are touched by the supernatural are haunted, both in body and mind, by what they have seen and been coerced into doing. The language is brutal and beautiful and the images Robinson creates are so vivid that they stay with you long after you have finished the poems. This is a world of edges: shore and land, hills and villages: people and the fay; woods and fields, madness and sanity. It is at the margins of existence where the magic leaks in, and when it does, it corrodes much of what it touches. The spare, inky illustrations by Robin's brother, Tim, only add to the strange and otherworldly nature of this collection.
