I took my time reading this book. And every time I picked it up, it simply flowed, page after page just like a good novel. I didn't want to put it down. But I did, because I wanted to absorb and reflect on what the author had written and take my time understanding it all. Being Greek, my knowledge of Greece's history was all based from what I had gathered listening to my parents and greater family. All the events that I recall them talking about through my childhood and adult life - are in the book. It is accurate, unbiased, extremely well researched and it reads really well, unlike any other history book I have read. It has blown my mind as to what the real history of Greece is, especially for the last 200 years. In some cases, it countered my thoughts that Greece has always been the victim of everything that she has been afflicted with. Regretfully, some of it, I now know to be self-inflicted. Timelines and locations, names, places and events - all accurate. Revealing. As I said above - it’s a MUST read for any Greek, especially those that are 2nd generation not born in Greece nor having lived in Greece. Greece will always exist and this book is testimony to that. If she can survive through everything, she has in the last 3000 or so years, and live to tell the tale - she will outlive all those around her.
