Reviews: Great Expectations (3)
“a brilliant wayt of reading a classic”
(Paperback)
by Ladyreading365
This was a brilliant graphic novel. I have read the great expectations book before, and I loved being able to read it again in graphic novel format. Plus, how often do you get to read a book from the back to the front. The pictures were in wonderful detail. It flowed so well and was very well written. I just loved the atmosphere that was created. It was such an amazing reading experience. This book will be perfect for school/home education from young to adult as it's easy to understand the storyline. I certainly recommend reading it. I love manga classics as I have read a few now and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. It's a great alternative to reading a classic or to accompany reading the classic. It will definitely better clarify the story. I just loved all the emotions that this book brought out of me. Only the highest of praise goes out to the author, illustrator, and publishers for creating such a wonderful reading experience. I will definitely be reading more books from this series.
“Brilliant Illustrations”
(Paperback)
by Schizanthus Nerd
I’m currently on a bit of a Manga Classics binge. I’m loving the fact that they’re manga but also that they’re giving me the opportunity to dip my toes into classics that have intimidated me for years. I read two pages of Great Expectations when I was about ten and have never made it to page three. After getting a bit lost in The Count of Monte Cristo, I tried a different approach here. I found myself a book summary and read that first before tackling this manga adaptation. It helped. A lot. I really enjoyed this read. The illustrations are brilliant. Young Pip is absolutely adorable. Miss Havisham is amazing! I’m definitely going to keep reading Manga Classics. Thank you so much to NetGalley and UDON Entertainment for the opportunity to read this book.
“Manga version of the Charles Dickens classic”
(Paperback)
by Minette
I have been critical of these Manga versions of the classics in the past but this one is a massive improvement on some of the previous ones. It reproduces faithfully the plot and is a worthy introduction to the story: Pip, a young orphan, helps an escaped convict on the marshes and is also invited to Miss Haversham’s house to play with her adopted daughter, Estella. As he grows up, he is helped financially by an unknown benefactor and meets many people in London who help him. He eventually finds out the truth about his benefactor. As usual, it is beautifully illustrated (in the digital edition that I have, it is all in black and white).
