Reviews: Gray Mountain (2)
“Another great read from John Grisham”
(Paperback)
by Milton of Campsie Annie
I have read all John Grisham's novels and I was not disappointed by this, his latest new best seller. He remains one of the best thriller writers and again his novel relates to courtroom drama and litigation. The book commences with Samantha, the main character in this book, a young lawer, awaiting a decision that will change her life. Her future is uncertain and after the fall of Lehman Brothers 10 days ago, she ponders the viability of her position in the firm she works for Scully and Pershing. The financial crisis and credit meltdown had the world on the brink of a catastrophe........and she waits. The bad news comes and Samantha is told that she is being offered a furlough. Explained it means that the firm keeps her under contract for the next twelve months but she does not receive a pay check. Having no choice in the matter Samantha accepts this and her life takes another direction. Soon she is representing clients in the Mountain Legal aid clinic in Brady, Virginia, a stark contrast to working for New York's biggest law firm. Samantha has to adapt fast and she has to learn the ways of the people living in these mountains. All is not what it seems. As always John Grisham has twists and turns and this is a most enjoyable read. I would recommend this book and eagerly await his next.
