“Loved it”
(Hardback)
I love Dolly Alderton’s writing, it’s so clever, funny and relatable. My friend told me this book explained how she was feeling about her own break up, and it helped me to understand what she’s been going through. A satisfying story that anyone would love.
“Alderton’s best yet!”
(Hardback)
For me this is without a doubt Alderton’s best book yet! Which is saying something because I loved Ghosts, but this book is just utterly brilliant.
First of all, I don’t think I’ve laughed so much at a book in ages - it is HILARIOUS, just my kind of humour! But, as expected from Alderton, it’s also incredibly insightful, tender, moving and relatable for anyone who’s ever been through a break up and wondered where it all went wrong. I loved the sneaky way she made us all feel so gutted for Andy, only to throw in Jen’s point of view right at the end and rather blow things up. So cleverly done.
I can’t imagine anyone not loving this - if you’re happily settled like me then you’ll enjoy it for the endless laughs, and if you’ve been through a breakup recently, or remember heartbreak well, you’ll empathise and feel seen. It’s just really, truly wonderful and an easy five stars from me ✨
“Dolly’s best yet!”
(Hardback)
Loved loved LOVED the latest book from Dolly!
From the male perspective during a seemingly unexpected break-up, we follow Andy as he comes to terms (very slowly and painfully) with his newly single life and piece together why Jen left him.
This was truly an incredible piece of writing, and as much as I enjoyed Dolly’s debut fiction novel Ghosts, I was blown away by this. I genuinely went through all of the emotions reading this and every character just felt so real. An easy 5 star rating!
“Funny and compassionate”
(Hardback)
I read this while ill with Covid and it kept my attention when little else could. Dolly Alderton writes insightfully about relationships with humour and compassion.. Andy, middling stand up comedian and sweet but shambolic human being, has been dumped by the woman he loves and the story unfolds from his point of view as he tries to understand what happened and get his life together. I laughed out loud in parts and also found it really touching. Very enjoyable.
“Her best !”
(Hardback)
Dolly does it again!
I loved this even more than her previous novels , the characters, the writing, the nostalgia , i want to read it all over again! I honestly felt i was part of this friendship group by the time I finished it . It just felt so real , reap people with real problems .
It's a tale of breakups, make ups, heartbreak and friendship . I loved that it is told 90% from the male POV , it has big Fleishman is in Trouble vibes (which I loved) and it shouts screen adaptation .
My fave Dolly to date !
