“Superb!!!”

Good as dead is the best of the series so far, I put it down reluctantly, but it took me two days to finish it, a real page turner
“Fast paced”

Although the plot was not particularly complex this made sense given the short time scale during which the book was set, and I found it quite fast paced and gripping.

Once again this book re Thorne did not disappoint. This was slightly different based over three days but it was action packed and I could not put this book down once I started reading. I have read all of this authors books and he continues to develop the characters and makes the plot seem real. I would recommend this book.
“Good”

One of my best reads. To me, this book has lightened up the Tom Thorne Series. But it did lack that fast-paced touch. However, I rate it 5 because of it's storyline and easy & very detailed read.
“As good as ever!”

Billingham ticks all the boxes in this outing for Thorne and Co. I liked that he married-up events from his stand-alone novel (In the Dark) and incorporated them into this excellent stand-off/hostage story. There are some good characters in the Thorne series though which don't really feature so much in this novel, Holland and Kitson are very much minor players, which I found worked rather well as it gave us more focus on the hostage Helen Weeks and her captor. The reasons for the hostage situation pan out in a very nicely executed plot. The last few minutes of the hostage crisis are genuinely nerve-wracking, with perhaps an imperfect metering of justice rounding things off. Thorne's private life takes an interesting direction too. Past events are perhaps finally laid to rest for our hero. All in all a great read. Already looking forward to the next Thorne novel.
